I am a fine artist and an illustrator/author of children's picture books. It's an amazing life to spend your days creating, whether as the written word, illustrations for writing or paint on canvas. I also love to work on large street murals and with community art projects.
My passions are encouraging children's creative development and enhancing their growing literacy skills. As most of my books focus on the natural environment, in school and library visits I engage the children in the books through the stimulation of nature play.
For my most recent book, Emerald The Green Turtle's Tale, written by the award winning author Aleesah Darlison, I have put together a puppet play that involves 15 students in the performance, all holding hand held puppets.
Other presentations you can read about on the contact/presentation page.
My most current community mural you can see on the home page. It is on a building 25m long! The image represents the forest in the low ambiguous light of dawn or dusk.
At the moment I am frantically illustrating as I have a set of 5 books to complete, and an exhibition of paintings looming.
I spend many hours in my little studio listening to audio books as I draw, paint and then giggle at ideas I have for future books!
Happy reading and remember... let your imagination run WILD!
PS - Oh, and by the way, the galah in the photo is George. He is a rescue bird whom we have had for 15 years. We recently moved from Albany to Nannup and George suffers from separation anxiety. So I had to take him with me in a small cage. It wasn't me, my husband or the kids he missed though, it was Beau and Banjo, the dogs. George is fine now, settled into his new aviary beautifully....and back with backyard friends.
